Dunvegan Castle & Gardens

MacLeod Estate, Dunvegan House, Dunvegan, Isle of Skye IV55 8WF, UK – 01470 521206

Not the prettiest or the grandest castle but wow does it make up for this in other ways. Castle tour is so interesting. Gardens are really diverse and beautifully cared for. The greenhouse in the walled garden has a particularly well chosen and looked after plant collection. The boat trip to see the seals is incredible - so close up and the guide was superb - Not to be missed. Overall an excellent great value full day out.

Dunvegan Castle and Gardens makes for a wonderful day out and we loved every minute of it! We did the seal trips: the guide was extremely informative and we loved seeing the seals up close. The gardens were well maintained and absolutely stunning. The castle itself was a great experience. There is plenty of information about the stately home and the history of the MacLeod clan! Overall, a great trip!

The Three Chimneys and The House Over-by

Colbost, Dunvegan, Colbost, Isle of Skye IV55 8ZT, UK – 01470 511258

We've been here a couple of times over the years. What an amazing experience. The location, the staff, the service and of course the superb food. Yes it's not the cheapest of places but you should know that if you're dining here. Everything about the Three Chimneys is at the higher end of dining but you're made to feel welcome and relaxed. Highly recommended but make sure you book in well in advance.

Weird things with service: brought still water instead of sparkling then made a fuss about changing it, took an order for something at the start of service which was off the menu and had to correct later. Food was fine, underwhelming and not particularity inventive. One or two courses were pretty unpleasant, but put that down to personal taste. Presentation and portions inconsistent from what we could see of the tables around us. Atmosphere: zero. Either whisper or make your peace with everyone listening to your conversation, it's like a church. I think there was music playing but if there was it was imperceptibly quiet. Basically fine, but in the context of what it costs it's really hard to recommend. Better options elsewhere. Don't believe the hype.
